Snowy Hydro 2.0
Snowy 2.0 is the next generation of the iconic Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme. Once complete, the Scheme will provide 2000 megawatts of dispatchable, on-demand renewable power and approximately 350,000 megawatt hours of large-scale energy storage.
From a technical and engineering perspective, this project is at the forefront of international hydropower technology and design, attracting input and interest from global specialists across a range of fields. Snowy 2.0 also presents geographical and environmental challenges due to its remoteness and alpine location.
The scheme acts like a giant battery by absorbing storing and dispatching energy, linking two existing dams Tantangara and Talbingo, through 27km of tunnels and building a new underground power station.
The project is designed to provide on-demand power while reusing or ‘recycling’ the water in a closed loop and use solar and wind energy to pump water to the higher dam, to be stored for later use.
Pearce Geotech Pty Ltd has been engaged by the Future Generation Joint Venture to conduct materials testing for the project, providing on-site skills and expertise to deliver our trusted services, further confirming Pearce Geotech as a market leader in materials testing for renewable energy projects.
